PEI COPC Board of Directors

Sally Bernard – President

In the early-2000’s Sally and her husband Mark transitioned Mark’s family farm in Freetown, PEI, to Certified Organic production(primarily as a financial consideration). As their soil management practices improved and they witnessed land and nature respond positively to their organic practices, Sally started taking organic more seriously, applying these practices to her (former) flock of sheep, and to her home and commercial livestock production. She’s never looked back. Among her many duties such as managing their four children, and co-managing the expanding Organic Grainery, Sally is the primary force behind raising livestock at Barnyard Organics, including, since 2007, raising organic meat chickens & organic laying hens.

Drew Jeffery – Vice-President

Drew Jeffery along with his father John and brother Robert operate MacRae Jeffery Farm in Waterside PEI and have done so since 2007. MacRae Jeffery Farm grows Certified Organic spelt, peas, soybeans, wheat and barley. Their crops are sold in bulk around the Maritimes, Quebec and Ontario. They also operate a conventional grass fed cow/calf beef herd.

Judy Loo – Secretary

Judy has a PhD in tree genetics from Oklahoma State University and is a former senior scientist with Biodiversity International . She recently returned to PEI to work with her siblings and extended family to revitalize their multi-generation family farm. Judy oversees the fruit and vegetable production on the home farm (where she grew up) located in Springfield. She is currently an active board member with ACORN (Atlantic Canadian Organic Regional Network) and Farmers Helping Farmers. You can find Judy and her sister Joyce at the Charlottetown Farmer’s Market every Saturday.

Willie owns and operates Ella’s Forest, the province’s largest Certified Organic wild blueberry farm. Named after Willie’s daughter, the farm is focused on conserving pollinator habitat and preserving the valuable ecological resources across the more than 300 acres under production. A mad innovator,  Willie is continuously looking to develop new value-added products to add his consumer offerings.
