Over three years ago, with an eye to opportunity and change, Chiel Middelkamp and his father moved their farm from the Netherlands to Alberry Plains, Prince Edward Island. Their farm in the Netherlands used to be certified organic and Middelkamp Organic Produce became certified in early 2013. Chiel has since been joined by his brother Eelco.

Several factors contributed to the move to Prince Edward Island, including land quality and lifestyle.

The Middelkamps built a new warehouse and installed new grain tanks at their new location. They grow soybeans, barley, wheat, potatoes, onions, red beets, celery and broccoli. Product is sold to Quebec and the Maritimes.

Both brothers are active in the Young Farmers of PEI, and Chiel Middelkamp previously sat on the board of the PEI Federation of Agriculture, and was Vice President of the PEI Certified Organic Producers Cooperative for a period of time.
