Funding available for PEI Farmers

Funding Opportunities for PEI Farmers:

On-Farm Climate Action Fund:

Closed for 2023, watch for 2024 availability. Administered by the PEI Federation of Agriculture, funds are available for practices including: cover cropping, rotational grazing, and nutrient management

Sustainable Canadian Agriculture Partnership:

The Sustainable Canadian Agriculture Partnership (SCAP) has many funding opportunities for island farmers, including, but not limited to:

Alternative Land-Use Services (ALUS) Program – ALUS provides financial assistance to farmers and farmland owners through a multi-year land use agreement. The agreement provides annual payments for the adoption and maintenance of Beneficial Management Practices (BMPs) on agricultural land and for the conversion of targeted environmentally sensitive land from annual crop production to biodiverse, carbon sequestering perennial landscapes.

Agriculture Stewardship Program – provides financial assistance to farmers to increase environmental sustainability, and climate change mitigation and adaptation, by providing technical and financial support to the development, promotion and implementation of Beneficial Management Practices (BMPs). Activity areas include soil conservation, climate change mitigation, soil health, nutrient management, integrated pest management, riparian management, water quality, water use efficiency, and on-farm product and waste storage.

Perennial Crop Development Program – provides financial assistance to establish and improve perennial cropping systems. Perennial crops are often considered to have both substantial ecological and economic benefits compared to annual crop species. Perennial crops can increase carbon levels in the soil and reduce contamination of watercourses and wetlands through erosion control, water-use efficiency, and nutrient cycling efficiency.

Organic Industry Development Program – designed to support the organic agriculture sector in Prince Edward Island by providing strategic assistance with projects that will building the capacity, growth, and competitiveness of the sector. This program provides financial assistance for activities to develop new organic products or serve new organic markets, purchase specialized equipment, and organic land conversion.

Livestock Strategy Program – will support projects that are designed to increase productivity, resource capacity, environmental sustainability, revenue diversification and risk management. The goal is to increase profitability and expand the PEI livestock industry.
