We would like to thank all the people who attended the Organic Harvest Meal, as well as all the sponsors, it was a great celebration of the harvest of organic products on PEI.

The venue was great, and the food was delicious, a big thank you goes to Chef Adam Loo and all the other chefs from the Murphy Group of Restaurants for their work in preparing the meal. Thank you to Sobeys PEI Stores, Speerville Mills, Kentdale Organic, Middelkamp Organic, Red Soil Organic, Barnyard Organic, Jen & Derek’s Organic farm, Earth Island Organic, Kelly Cheverie, Heart Beet Organic, Pembroke farms, Atlantic Grown Organics,and Elderflower Organic Farm.

As much food as possible was sourced from PEI Organic Farms.

Organic Harvest Meal

Sunday Sept 21 starting at 6PM at the PEI Brewing Company, you can reserve tickets at PEI Fall Flavours Site http://www.fallflavours.ca/calendar/56/16597-11th-Annual-Organic-Harvest-Meal until Friday. You can also send an email to email [at] organicpei [dot] com to see if there are still some available on Saturday. This will be a great celebration of the Organic Fall Harvest, with Ian Petrie as guest speaker and the viewing of “Island Green”. Ticket price is $40.00 so reserve yours soon.

 

Research Projects
PEI COPC are in the 2nd year of the 3 year project in the soybean trials, we had field days for these and the preliminary results are now available, the fields will be harvested soon, and then we will have production results from the 16 varieties trialed. We will have a winter meeting for all interested producers.

PEI COPC is working with Agriculture and Agrafood Canada on a 3 year project to evaluate various crop rotations, to find better weed and insect control, as well as better use of nutrients in the soil.  There will be a field tour at Harrington Experimental Farm on Sept 24th at 9:30, Roger Henry will explain what has been done this year.

Kitchen Meetings
Our next meeting is at Jen & Derek’s farm in Wilmot Valley, 579 MacMurdo Road, beginning at 6:00 on Monday Sept 22nd. Come out to discover how they use various equipment on their farm, as well as items that they have made or modified to suit the size of the operation.
Oct 6th we will visit Pembroke Farm, 249 Route 321, Pembroke, to get information on seed saving and sheep production and herding.
The final one will be at Crystal Green Farm 2377 Route 112, Bedeque to get a better understanding of box programs and how they can work for you.
